Local Anethesia

This FAQ is specifically for the Local Anethesia course. For questions relating to courses in general, please refer to the General Questions.

When will I receive my course packet?

Books are mailed out in time for you to have those three (3) weeks before the course. If three weeks has passed, please contact our office to confirm your address.

I moved since I submitted my course application. What do I need to do?

Please email Stacey Bonham the following information:

  • Applicant Name
  • Course Name
  • Course Date
  • New Address (include City, State, Zip)
  • Daytime Contact Number

Or fill out the Change of Address form.

Can I take this course if I am pregnant?

No. If you learned of your pregnancy after enrolling in the course, please contact our office.

I have high blood pressure, can I still take this course?

We Carbocaine without any vasoconstrictor since we’re not performing any procedures on the students. There are normally fewer issues with high blood pressure and heart racing when no epi (vasoconstrictor) is used. If you are still concerned, please email us your concerns and we can check with the lead instructor.

What kind of anesthetic (numbing medicine) is used in the course?

Carbocaine (mepivacaine) is the anesthetic (numbing medicine) used for this course.  Vasoconstrictors are not used since there is no need to prolong the effect.

Are vasoconstrictors used during the course?

No.  Vasoconstrictors are not used since there is no need to prolong the effect.

Do I have to have my own liability insurance policy?

Not if you are covered by your employer’s policy. You will need to confirm your coverage before applying for this course.

Do I have to be employeed to take this course?

There are no employment requirements for this course as long as you are a licensed Dental Hygienist and have professional liability insurance, BUT you do have to give 15 injections under the supervision of a licensed dentist within a year of taking the course.

Do I have to wear scrubs?

Yes.
